I'm currently using AntiVir, it's good... but, I'm not exactly sure. I need to know if AntiVir is better than Norton AntiVirus, which I do doubt, maybe people like you which are professionals are viruses and hackers can help me decide.

Also, I read the AntiVirus 2004 Review, and you guys rated AVG very, very low. Why? It's fine to me.

Or... PC-Cillin? smile.gif

Thanks.

Hi Raymond,

just some resources I've found on the net. Personally, I use free AVG and with safe browsing habits, it seems to work fine (never been infected).

As this is a quite subjective question, you can take a look at:

http://antivirus.about.com/cs/beforeyoubuy...p/aatpavwin.htm
http://www.consumersearch.com/www/software...virus_software/
http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/article/0,a...63,pg,12,00.asp

Hope this will help you.

Raymond,

If you are NOT GETTING malware, viruses, trojans, keyloggers, etc... then AntiVir is GOOD ENOUGH !!!

FYI: I have been using AntiVir [plus other freeware] for years, with no problems.

Other freeware = SpyBot, AdAware & Spyware Blaster, among others.

AntiVir is good.

Norton is a good AV program except that it is bloated and can slow your system down.

Followup:

I probably should have mentioned that in addition to AntiVir and other freeware.

My operating system is Win98SE and Mozilla 1.6 is my browser.

I used to be a Norton AV user for a long time. Then I learned more about computers and did realize what a giant bloated program it is. I really hate the way it just installs files and stuff everywhereee, creates new directorys in like 10 places, I hate that, like it jus invaded my pc.

So I finally ditched Norton for good and have been using AVG free for about two years. Has always been very good to me. Never been infected, blocked it well the couple times I could have been, and it runs really well on the system, and only creates 1 directory for itself like a good light program should.

Glad AVG has worked for you, but it does not test very well. I saw one test where it only stopped 58% if the viruses it was exposed to.

Interceptor had a post not too long ago about a very infected machine running an updated AVG.

Re paid AV - Kaspersky and PC-Cillin are rated at the top. AntiVir and Avast are rated very good for the free ones, but Avast has a fairly cumbersome registration process.

Greetings;

I too dumped Norton a long time ago and tried several of the free AV programs and finally settled on Antivir and have been real happy with it so far. I now have it on all 3 of my systems and find it very easy to update and use.
Good luck,
Sam
