Hi - After upgrading to Office 2003 a user mentioned that she was able to add a link (ie - \\ServerShare\Apps\file.doc) to an e-mail simply by drilling down to the share and double-clicking the file. The path would 'auto-generate within the new e-mail and she would send it to others. The method she used was the hyberlink icon in the toolbar of Outlook. Of course when I try to replicate this the file simply opens upon double-click.

Can anyone verify if this is even possible with Outlook 2003 or am i chasing a ghost? Appreciate any input.

Are you wanting to be able to send links to others within the company or open the doc mentioned in the link?

I hope i'm answering your question here - the user would like to send the path (link?) to others, of a file on the server. She is an Admin Secretary who values quick ways of doing things. She didn't set it up herself but swears she could quickly add a path to an e-mail by using the Hyperlink icon. The path would look something like below:

\\Server\Share\Folder\Folder\something.doc

Users who received here-mail could simply click the link to open the file from the server.

Her method was to burrow down using the hyperlink icon in a new e-mail and "double-click the desired file" (?) which would create the path in the e-mail body.

Hi Cal_8

As she said to you, in MS Word, you can <inser/hyperlink/file/browse> and you'll have the full path of a network/shared document linked on the page.

Other users may be able to open this document, if they have server rights to do that -and, if it is located on a shared folder-, only on the same LAN. (users from outside, like from Internet, will not open it).

Ironbender you made her day. Word was not checked as the default editor in the Tools\Options\Mail Format tab and w/o that the hyperlink option changed. Appreciate your help on this one.

I did not answer before cause I've not understood your question (I speak French and Brazilian Portuguese, and my English knowledge is still basic). Steve's reply opened my mind rolleyes.gif
