Ok Tassadarmaster, welcome to SAF and don't panic biggrin.gif

On the week-end, some guys are out with their family... quite normal, don't you think so ?

I am not sure I understood your question... If you mean that you need a static IP on the net, it only depends on your ISP, we can not do anything about...

If you mean you need a static IP on a Lan, just set your lan properties and assign any IP for each system... eg. 192.168.0.1, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, 192.168.0.2 etc...

Win XP default settings for a lan is to attribute a random IP to any system on a lan, which can cause conflicts.

Have a safe and nice week-end ! And post back if you need more info...

how do i assign my comp a lan ip?
Ironbender
- Click <Start/Config/Lan connection/>
- Right click on <Local connection/Properties>
- Click on <TCP/IP protocol/Properties>
- Uncheck "automaticaly assign IP" (or something like this - translated from Brazilian Portuguese OS)
- Check "Use this IP address"
- Enter Static IP, Subnet Mask, Gateway.

Note that your LAN may stop to work or freeze if you assign an IP address within automatic IP range of other systems...

Do that on other systems and you are done.

Check with you internet service provider and ask if the ISP's web server uses Dynamic (DHCP) or Static IP addressing. For web servers that businesses lease, the service often use Static IP addressing. Servers used for home use most often use DHCP, however if you want to use static IP addressing, your ISP may allow you do do that providing you pay a few more bucks per month. Contact your ISP.

do i have to do this for all my computers?
Ironbender
sure... all of them with a different number. If one of your computers stay on automatic IP, there is a risk that it conflicts with a static IP on the same lan.

Tassadarmaster
and if i dont do it on all my computer, will my internet be down?

If the above occurs, your entire LAN may freeze.

Also, when you change LAN properties that are performing well, there is a risk that you'll need to "adjust" other settings on your Internet server machine, to remain connected... I suggest you to note all your systems settings (ore create restore points) before you change anything.

so, i have to go on all my other comps and assign each comp a specific lan ip
cpu#1 - 192.168.1.100
cpu#2 - 192.168.1.101
cpu#3 - 192.168.1.108

Something like that right?
Ironbender
Yes... and the computer address, which is connected to your broadband modem must be set as the Gateway.
Tassadarmaster
what is the 255.255.255.0 ip thing?
Ironbender
It's the subnet mask... you may take a look at these resources:
http://www.networkclue.com/routing/tcpip/c...ating-masks.php
http://www.tcpipguide.com/free/t_IPSubnetM...alculations.htm

Can I change my proxy ?
Ironbender
Proxy is installed on the gateway machine... as I do not use any proxy on my lan, I have very few skills with...

Assuming that you are using AnalogX proxy, all references to it will be the gateway IP + the port (when applicable, like on IE lan properties and OE mail accounts)... e.g.

Your setting will be something like this (third computer):

Static IP: 192.168.0.3
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.1

Contact your Internet Sevice Provider.

Note that your external NET IP is one thing, internal LAN IP will be different.
