Hi all.
I'm running XP home edition.
The PC restarts itself at random(usually I'm online).
Sometimes on the restart I get 'System has recovered from a serious error'?
Sometimes I get 'the disk needs to be checked for consistency'?
Also on the disk check some of my files need to be 'truncated' on my local settings?
I've checked,and cleaned,the fans(which were almost static with dirt).
Since then the PC runs quicker but still resarts itself.
As I said it happens at random.
Last night it resarted twice inside of 5 minutes, while other times it may not resart at all...
I've been told that it could be a MB or Disk problem?
Any help would be much appreciated...

Hi donexile, welcome to SAF
Sounds like a hardware problem. You can try to remove and re-seat all your PCI and AGP cards and IDE cables.
If it does not work, try to remove your memory sticks and running with only one.
Also check for CPU temperatures (it's not an overheating symptom, but...)
Hope this will help.
If not, please post back.

Welcome to SAF donexile!
It does sound like a drive problem. Check
THIS SAF PINNED TOPIC for a list of mfr diagnostic utilities. Get / run the one for your drive and see if you get any errors.
If you do, post back.
Re-occuring disk errors usually mean it is time to backup and start shopping for a new drive.

Hi fellas.
Thanks for your replies
I will try out your suggestions and post back once I have found out what's going on-tho I must admit it doesn't sound like I'll have good news...

Also... it could be a Virus. There's a virus that reboot's the computer automatically. Forgot the name, though...

Raymond is right, it could be software bug too, my PC did that many times when I was using Win ME, now that I'm using XP version it never happened again.

Try this:
Explore /Right click Properties / click Tools / click Error Checking, Check Now button. If there are volume errors on the disk this should report it; if you get wierd messages and it will not complete, sounds like your harddrive may be heading south.
Either way, be sure to back up your data now.

Consider the following three possibilities:
Device drivers HP Printer Drivers: My HP DJ 7660's drivers does this when fully installed. I removed the upgrade monitor side that seemed to take care of the rebooting.
Power supply: I had a power supply that was going out. That is commonly thought to cause random reboots.
Uncheck: Right click on 'My Computer', left click on properties, Advanced, Startup and Recovery, Automatic Restart. That may take care of the problem as well.
