Full Version: Spyware Removers List

Just discovered this rather good list of spyware removers.

Some of them are the "standard" removers such as Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware, CWShredder etc, but some of the more specialist tools are also listed that really require guidance prior to using to make sure the correct tool is being used for the job!

There are a few on there that I don't immediately recognise, and one or two others that we probably wouldn't recommend.

However, it might prove to be quite a handy one-stop resource.

Hi Angoid, Thanks for sharing, it will be useful and I added it to my favorites (at security section) smiley- yes.gif

Thanks Angus, I also put it in my 'Favorites' biggrin.gif

Another thing that would help Angus, is if you can put a list of what we should have on our computer, and what to start with first.

For myself, I don't think I would need more than 4 or 5 security programs, I hardly have any pop-ups, and so far I haven't had any worms or bugs. Others would probably need more.

What do you think?

Sorry Lorraine - got so busy I didn't see this .... until just now ... I'll look at creating a list that we can pin into this forum over the next few days or so.

Such a list is well worth having around IMHO.

Thanks Angus biggrin.gif

Would it be possible to make two list?

One for someone that surf all over the internet, and would need a lot of protection, and one for someone that only needs maybe a virus, program, A firewall, and maybe a couple popup stopper.

I know I'll be deleting Norton, because my subscription will be up next week, and will be getting a free virus program. I have deleted Norton once before, and I think I know how to get rid of everything, I hope.

The firewall, I'm not sure, my subscription will be up in a couple months. so have to think about that.

There are so many good programs out there, that are free, and the ones you pay for, gives you problems when you either update or upgrade them, It's just a little discouraging. sad.gif

It might be worth creating the list in two parts: the first part of basic AV / spyware protection, and the second part giving programs you don't strictly need if you practise safe surfing but are definitely worth having around.

Hmmm ... let me think on it. Someone else has made another list available for my program, and I'm working on some code to use it.

When I do create the lilst, I'll create it as a new topic here and pin it so it's eye-catching.

By the way, Interceptor's Want a Security CD? thread is pretty good, and may well do the job.

Yes, he does, it's a great list, the thing is, which ones would I pick? unsure.gif

Interceptor's list, is more for someone who knows what their doing, and might needs a lot of security. The basics I'm sure, is all I would need. smile.gif

There might be others that feel, all they need is the basics also.

Still haven't had a chance to get near this, but I'll make an effort before the week's out (I'm in Donegal next week), plus there's an update to the Scanalyser coming soon - I want to get that done by the end of the week as well.

You're right - Interceptor mentions such programs as LSPFix that must be used only under supervision and not on a "try this and see if it works" basis, as used incorrectly that program could lead to an unusable system.
