Hi to all!
It's been a while-Ive been busy-but I am bak with a query and hope that someone on here can help me with simple to follow, step by step instructions.

When I up graded my old pc , i gave my old one to my parents.
After being sat there for some time they decided they were keen to get online and start processing stuff etc etc so i went round and we decied to upgarde to windows xp pro.Using a disc that has been used countless times i proceeded to completely reformat and overwrite the old operating susytem which took a little time but we got there.
They then had what was,to them,a sopanking new pc-40gig HD,1.3AMD processor,512mbram,64mbNvidia graphocs card, dvd rom and cd rewriter. And boy was it fast!No junk,no clutter-so i loaded on a few essentials for them-officexp,nero,etc etc.The p[roblem came when i tried to get them online-they had got a disc from wanadoo but had never registered and were told to simply load the disc and it would be "as easy as abc"!This is where things fell apart.
It appears that in reformatting i have caused the pcto not recoginise the modem!Ut is there and it definitely works but the pc cannot find it.I dont have any driovers for it and am unsure as to the make(it MAY be a pci v90 modem-there is a yellow exclamation mark or question mark next to some hardware called a "pci communications controller").
IVE TRIED LOADS OF THINGS BUT CANNOT GET IT TO WORK.i THOUGHT I MAY NEED TO MANUALLLY INPUT INTERNET SETTINGS AND CREATE A NEW CONNECTION BUT WANNADOO INSISTED NOT!
can anyone please advise/help me as this is so frustrating-i can be emailed on

If i had instuctions i could print off and take round it would be a godsend.we will try anything!!!nOTE THIS IS A STANDARD 56K MODEM CONNECTION.

Hi Dave,

After reformatting, you must install all motherboard drivers and modem drivers too. You'll need to give us your mobo and modem specs.

Open your computer and post your system specs (some can be found on BIOS, others you'll need to see yourself).

might want to try this app to ID your peripherals:

http://www.lavalys.com/products/overview.p...p?pid=1&lang=en

and report back so we can locate some drivers.........

wil get the prog and report back the info tonight-just a thought though-if windows was telling me it could not detect a modem, atre you sure this everest diagnostic prog will be able to find and summarise? And i hear what you are saying about drivers but i thought xp had most common drivers-everything else works fine-sound,graphics,mouse,keyboard,monitor,programmes-infact its so clean and new its faster than mine lol

You may have to take Ironbender's advise and look at the modem & when you do, post any manufacturer's markings as well as the CHIPSET name and number - this is marked right on the chip itself.

To see this on a PCI card where all the components are facing down (there may be a manufacturer's label on side without components), you'll probably need to pull the card out of it's slot - ensure you have the PC unplugged before you do this & when you're finished, you can plug it back into its slot and plug the power back into the PC.

You can download chipset drivers at http://www.via.com.tw/en/resources/downloa...enter/chipsets/

Via AC97 audio drivers (if required/not on above chipset drivers): http://www.softwarepatch.com/utilities/viaac97.html

Relisys monitor drivers: http://www.relisys.com/main/index.cfm?action=drivers

For your modem, download the proper drivers at http://www.agere.com/entnet/modem_drivers.html

To avoid IRQ conflicts, better install it on COM4 or COM5, as COM1 is for your mouse.

To do that, create COM3 or COM3 and COM4, the modem will be installed on the next COM port.
