Hi
My broadband internet connection is very very slow and timing out on most http web pages. But https web pages are working fine and downloading very quickley. Email is also working fine. The networked PC in the same room is using the same Internet connection via the network and that works fine.

I have tried it on 3 browsers so the problem is not browser specific

I can't work out why the it works fine on secure pages but barely works on other pages...
Help anyone

Hi pjh. welcome to SAF

Have you tried to shutdown all (systems, broadband modem, switch/hub) and restart them after a minute or two ?

Hi Chris

Yes I have tried all that.

Ok, this was just to discard network issues...

Second thing to do is checking your Internet security and advanced settings on this system. After that, we'll probably need some more details.

(I am leaving for an hour now, but there's a lot of friends here that will probably help you. If not, I'll be back soon)

Cool.

I have gone through all the Internet security settings. First setting the defaults then setting the minimums.
Still no success. I tried deleting the firewall software in case that was the problem but it made no difference.

The fact that this problem is replicated on 3 different browsers tells me it is not an IE issue more a windows one.

It has gone past midnight here so I am signing off for the evening thanks for your response.

Ok pjh,

Are you using some proxy server ?
Check the Proxy Server address on <Internet/Options/Connections/Lan Settings> - it should be set to Automatically detect.

PS - Have you tried a repair/reinstall on IE6 ?

If you haven't made any system changes that could have resulted in this problem, I'd start with some spring cleaning. When is the last time you cleaned out Temp files and cookies? It can't hurt.

Also, have you made any changes to your HOSTS file or downloaded any security software?
pjh
I have reinstalled IE6 and checked all network settings. Cleaned out all temp files and cookies. Have not downloaded any security software. Dont know about the hosts file.
