Hi, I'm a newbie to this site.
I've been having problems playing online games using java. At random moments while I'm playing, my comp will either freeze or shut off right in the middle of my game. I don't have this problem any other time, like when I'm just surfing or not online. What could this be?? I'm baffled.

Hi mirandalea, welcome to saf
Have you tried to update Java on your system ? You can do it at
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jspFreezing or crashing may also occur if you have memory or graphic card problems, or if your system becomes unstable after a while, mostly by getting out of resources.

I tried uninstalling java and reinstalling from java.com but no luck. What causes it to run out of resources?

Hi again,
I am not sure if this is your problem yet... have you tried to close all running software before playing ? (do not close AntiVirus or Firewall).
Does this happens only when you play Java games online ? (it may be an IE bug)
Some online games websites have support and FAQs related to user's problems.

I'm not running any other programs except for MSN Messenger. It only happens online, and only during games. I can surf all day long with no problem. I've gone through all of the help sections and faqs on the game sites and haven't found anything addressing my problem. I'm at a loss on this one.

Try to close MSN Messenger and play a game... You can also check your browser Java and Java Scripts settings at <options/Internet options/security/Internet/custom settings>
Hope this will help...

I've tried playing without messenger running, same deal. I checked my java settings and changed it from high safety to medium and it didn't help. Another thing I've noticed, when it freezes, sometimes one sound gets stuck. It's like a skipping cd. I don't know if that is any clue, though, because it still freezes if I'm playing with the sound off. It's becoming very frustrating.
I posted this on another tech support forum and the people there thought it could be a spyware problem. (I do have spybot and bazooka and I run them regularly.) They said something about a program called Hijack This that would give me a programming log that may reveal something. I haven't tried that yet, though. Do you know anything about this?
