Hello everyone! Haven't been on here in a while. I have Windows XP Home & AOL 9.0 Security Edition SE & Dial-Up. This problem just started about two weeks ago. I have not downloaded anything except a Windows update and that was after the trouble started. When I go offline, after a few minutes, it will reconnect to the Internet. Sometimes it does that at start up. I can take a call and it tries to connect! I left my computer on last night before going to bed to run a virus scan while I read and it tried to connect twice! I have tried to sign off instead of clicking the X but no good. In Task Manager, I have stopped AOL Dial but doesn't help. I try to end AOLacsd.exe which helps (sometimes) but comes back when I reboot. I ran msconfig and I ended AOL Connectivity Service (Don't know if that was a good thing to do or not but am desperate) and that don't help. Can someone please help me? I am at a loss. I am still new at all this and I have learned a lot but everything that goes wrong is something I haven't learned yet! I have run Virus scan, spyware scans, CW Shredder, and grabbed my computer by the screen and begged it to stop. It didn't listen. Thanks!

Hi Tammy,
seems that some malware is trying to dial out and connect without your knowledge. First of all, enter internet properties and check "never dial a connection", as automated dialing is practical but I personally think that we must have control on that. (If you need to dial, just ask for it)
Wait for more advices on searching for spyware and malware items on your system. Remember that it may be only a Windows update or something like that, just do not let your system to dial automately.
regards,
Chris

AOL 9.0 Security Edition has been causing problems left and right with systems as well. I've had to deal with it many times at my shop. Drop back to 9.0 (non-security).

Well so far the suggestion has worked. If I have more problems I might just do that. Thanks everyone for helping me! You all are great!

You are welcome Tammy,
but, I recommend that you download and run AdAware SE, Spybot S&D and SpywareBlaster.
A firewall (like free ZoneAlarm) is good too, as you can control what is trying to access the internet and take some action about.

I have zone alarm as well as all the others. Because I am online all day every day ( I am disabled) I run them every other day. Thanks again!
