does anyone know of any software that will tell you who is connected to my network/wireless network and if anyone is attached to my computer?

thanks smile.gif

You can go to a command prompt and type: netstat to see if there are any established connections.

This program on the other hand is the neatest thing since sliced bread:

CurrPorts allows you to view a list of ports that are currently in use, and the application that is using it. You can close a selected connection and also terminate the process using it, and export all or selected items to a HTML or text report. Additional information includes the local port name, local/remote IP address, highlighted status changes and more.

seems that you are worried about who can access your wireless network without your knowledge...

If you respected all security settings (all levels passwords) on both, your network and computer, there's no reason to worry about.

You must use a good firewall and restrict shared folders on your network computers (eg. I use only one shared folder called "stargate+ a number" on each, and no other shared folder).

Chris

PS - Thanks Steve for sharing link to Currports. It may be handy for some purposes.

Just for additional info, Trend Micro's PC Cillin Internet Security package has an enable for wireless security; if anyone attempts to crash your network or leech bandwidth, a warning box pops up with the intruders IP address, and you can admit him to the family or shut him down and kick him off with a single click. I have used it couple of times. It's not terribly sophisticated, but it works well for what it does.

LucidLink includes free-to-distribute clients for XP & W2K and works with 802.1X enabled access points including 3Com, Cisco, D-Link, Linksys, Motorola, Netgear, SMC & Zyxel. It secures your wireless network with Wi-Fi Protected Access (802.1X) authentication and advanced WPA encryption with a very easy-to-use interface. This home office version supports up to 3 users - a free registration is a offered after 30 days. If you need more than 3 users, commercial version are available as well.

AirSnare is an intrusion detection system to help you monitor your wireless network. It notfies you as soon as a machine connects to your wireless network, that is not included in your list of friendly MAC addresses. You can configure the program to send an email notification to the administrator, log the connection, and also send a message to the connected machine, informing them that their actions are being monitored. AirSnare integrates with Ethereal for additional package capturing features.
