I am moving this topic to the Malicious code... forum.

Hi Ray...that's a nasty CoolWebSearch infestation you have there. You'll need these tools:

CWShredder << The standalone version

About:Buster

Save them both to the desktop for use in safe mode later. Run About:Buster and check for updates.

Go to Start > Run > type services.msc and OK it. Scroll down to this service:

Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Helper ( 11Fßä#·ºÄÖ`I)

Double-click on it and stop it, then set the Startup Type to 'Disabled'. Do the same for this one as well (probably already stopped, but check anyway):

Service: WinTools for IE service (WinToolsSvc)

Post back when you're ready to go and we'll start the cleanup.

Hi Ray...you need to know how to get to safe mode. Instructions here. The Boot.ini method is probably the easiest, but don't forget to undo it to get to normal mode.

You also need to make all files and folders visible:
QUOTE
    * Click Start.
    * Open My Computer.
    * Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
    * Select the View Tab.
    * Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
    * Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
    * Click Yes to confirm.
    * Click OK.

Because this infection has a hidden file that reloads the malware DLL each time you reboot, don't worry about the file name in the HijackThis R1 lines. Just fix them regardless.

Now for the fix.

Disconnect from the internet.

Open the Task Manager and end process on these:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\spools.exe

C:\WINDOWS\system32\mfcby32.exe

C:\WINDOWS\system32\sysde32.exe

Run HijackThis and put check marks in the boxes next to these lines:

Make sure you get them all. Click on 'Fix checked'

Boot to safe mode.

Run CWShredder and click on 'Fix'.

Run About:Buster. After the first run, it will prompt for a second one so OK that. It will generate a log. Save that to post in your next reply.

Run Spybot while in safe mode. You should also install AdAware SE Personal. Update it immediately after installation. It should also be run in safe mode.

Run Disk Cleanup (right-click on C:, select Properties) to clean out all temp and temp internet files.

Search for and delete these if found:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\spools.exe

C:\WINDOWS\system32\mfcby32.exe

C:\WINDOWS\system32\sysde32.exe

C:\WINDOWS\System32\msedpb.exe

C:\Program Files\TV Media << Folder

C:\WINDOWS\System32\dbaccess.exe

C:\Program Files\Common Files\WinTools << Folder

There are multiple infections on this system so we may not get them all in one go. This should get most of them. Post back with a fresh HijackThis log after rebooting to normal mode, along with the About:Buster log you saved.
