Welcome to SAF, fazjam.

You have some serious infections on that system as a result of not keeping Windows updated. The malware has exploited the security holes in unpatched versions of XP and will be impossible to fix permanently unless you go to the Windows Update site and install Service Pack 1a followed by all available critical and security patches.

Once you've done that, post back with a fresh HijackThis log and we'll do our best to help you.

Hi HKED,

Thanks alot for your reply and your suggestions.

After i posted that thread, my computer got even worse, i got viruses on my system, i couldn't even use the internet and my anti virus software could not remove the virus nor could I use it to scan. There was nothing i could do, i decided to format my hard drive and install a new copy of windows XP. Everything is working well now. But i will make sure i keep my windows updated as you suggested. Is there anything else i could do after installing a new copy of windows that will help protect my computer from such threats again?

Thank you again.

Jamal

Hi fazjam...sorry you had to format, but that was really the best thing to do. There were some serious infections on that system.

The best way to protect yourself is to keep Windows updates current. However, there will always be some areas of Windows that malware can be written to exploit. So some third-party protection is recommended:

SpywareBlaster

SpywareGuard

MVPS Hosts File

AdAware SE Personal

All of the above are freeware/donationware.

You could also consider using another browser as IE is so vulnerable. I use Firefox almost exclusively.

Hi HKED,

Thanks again for your help, i will take your advise.

Keep up the good work!! smiley- thumb up.gif
