Hello All,
I hope this is the right forum for this question. I'm having minor problems with my WinZip program. I am running WinZip 7.0 SR-1. I have been using it for quite some time now, and have been quite happy with it up till now. Just the other day something changed for which it is not behaving the way it use to. I download zipped files to a holding area. I then deal with them at my leisure. I unzip them & use them. Now, for some reason, WinZip & my Windows XP (Home Edition), are downloading files to a temporary folder & then making me unzip it at that time to a folder I specify. And it's not because I'm downloading those type of zipped files. I've gone back to a few websites in which I've downloaded files the way I use to before, and those same exact files are now downloading in this new way. Does anybody have any answers? Thank you in advance.
Sincerely,
Ron Reynolds

It sounds almost like the WinXP internal zip program is handling the files instead of WinZip. Go to a zip file in Windows Explorer, right-click and select 'Open with....' then 'choose program' (don't just click the WinZip option that is probably there). Tic the box to "Always open with...." and then select WinZip. This will assure that WinZip is handling these files.
Also make sure that when the download window opens up, the 'Open' selection isn't ticked.

Was your reference to WinZip 7.0 SR-1 a typo? WinZip 9.0 SR-1 is the current version and upgrades are free.

Hey jimholly & Tecumseh. jimholly, your idea did not work. Is there some other switch in Windows XP that could need to be switched? If so though, I myself didn't do anything to change it in the first place. And Tecumseh, it was no typo. I have 7.0. "Storm's Computer Philosophy"; "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"

Ah! But perhaps it is broke. Maybe reinstalling or upgrading might fix it, but usually the associations are kept in the registry even when this is done. You could uninstall, then go into the registry User and Machine sections, Software, Nico Mak Computing and delete these keys. This will give the install a much fresher start on reinstall.
