I really need help on this one.

I am in the stages of just trying to get a new internal modem because I don't know what is wrong with the one I already have.

When I was using my internet dial-up at home several months ago it worked just fine, didn't get any error messages or anything. Well when I came to school and tried to use their internet service it didn't work. Also I subscribed to Netzero and kept getting this message that the Remote Modem is not responding, what does that mean? I have tried everything they have told me to try, have gone and done everything in the help manual that they proide.

Should I just get a new internal modem? What do you think the problem is?

Any help is great, thanks! remybussi.gif

Hi marylspurlock, welcome.

Have you tried to call a self test from control panel, modem, (select) and click properties ? If your modem is correctly set and working, you will have a test passed ok.

Do this first and post back.

Ironbender and I are assuming that you are running Windows XP, is that right? And, just to be sure, we are talking about a 56k modem here, not broadband modem, right?

If so, Ironbender has a good suggestion; Enter Control Panel/Phone & Modem Options/Modems/Properties/Diagnostics/Query Modem.

If the query (it will take a few seconds) results in information data about your modem, the modem is working. If it results in a failure message, most likely your modem needs to be replaced.

A modem that I have installed in several units without a problem and works great is HERE. Get the WHQL certified; the only thing is that it does not specifically say that this is a fax modem (if you want fax capabilities), but the ones that I have definitely do fax. You might want to call Newegg to confirm.

Do the query thing, make sure this is your default modem if another is listed. Are you at least hearing it dial out? It can also depend on the system. Sometimes other devices will interfere with a modem (i.e. floppy, mouse controllers, etc). Try reinstalling the modem.

If that doesn't work:

7 bucks+plus decent modem at Newegg.com=problem is solved.
