When I once opened my notebook, I got a notification that new hardware called 'tmfilter' is found. When I performed a search to find software to install the hardware, I couldn't find it. Please tell me what hardware this is and if it's useful cuz I didn't install any hardware recently.
I stared getting this notification since I installed pc-cillin. I'm afraid if this is co-incident, but please consider it if u think it is helpful...

Tnx, it seems to be right, though I didn't try it yet. Very soon, I will.
But as u know the message they are describing is not what I got, I didn't get any messages other than getting a notification saying new hardware found...
So do I need to install the trend micro filter update even though I don't get any error messages but a notification?

"I stared getting this notification since I installed pc-cillin. "
This is a Trend Micro product. This installation is what (I believe) is causing the notification.
I don't use it, but it could very well be it's creating "virtual" hardware for the application. (On the same vein as a RAM DRIVE, it's a "virtual" hard disk, but exists in memory only. It acts just like a hard disk, but "disappears" until it's recreated on another boot.)
Follow up on the link/suggestion, and post back with the results, whether good or bad. If things are fine, the topic is closed, if not, then we'll see where we go from there.

When I followed up the links after getting the notification, I had to select a directory or cd drive to install the hardware. I also performed a search to look for the appropriate software to install it. As u know I don't have any(or perhaps don't know where it is) software to install it. So that's wht's happening.

TMFilter is also a part of the
Structural Alignment Program for Proteins (STRAP), a plug-in for text mining in
SAS products, as well as the OfficeScan filter in Trend Micro A-V products. I doubt the first two have any relationship to your problem, so it's probably a Trend Micro thing. You might try
searching their site for some solution to this.

Is it necessary for me to install this hardware? Cuz I can also disable it simply by checking 'Never prompt to install this hardware again.'

Well, you can choose not to load/use it, but the application which is calling for it (PC-cillin) probably won't function correctly.

Wait, wait.
Well, I had a problem, I mean I hav now currently. The problem is that I couldn't perform the PC-Cillin online update. That is, I couldn't update the virus pattern file. I've never succeeded in updating. When I click Update, I can see that 'Connecting to server' is in bold, which means it's connecting to the server, and never show me any progress. I was about to post another reply in other forums about this problem, but when I gave it a second thought after yr last reply, I had an inkling that the problem may be because of that Tmfilter.
What d u think?

Well, like I said in my second post in this thread;
"Follow up on the link/suggestion, and post back with the results, whether good or bad. If things are fine, the topic is closed, if not, then we'll see where we go from there. "

At this point, removing PcCillin and reinstalling it may be in order.
