I WAS FOLLOWING FILE NAMES OF KNOWN VIRUSES AND ADWARE AFTER RUNNING A VIRUS SCAN AND NOTICED I HAD SOME IN C:\WINDOWS\TEMP FILES. WELL AFTER GOING TO THAT LOCATION I NOTICED THAT IT CONTAINS LOTS OF FILES, FOLDERS, AND EVEN JPG IMAGES THAT I WAS UNAWARE WERE THERE. MY QUESTION IS THIS, IS IT SAFE TO DELETE THE FILES, FOLDERS AND JPG'S IN THIS C:\WINDOWS\TEMP FOLDER? I WOULD LOVE TO BE ABLE TO RECOUP THE DISK SPACE THAT I WILL GAIN FROM DELETING SUCH ITEMS I DO NOT USE. THANKS FOR ANY AND ALL HELP. smiley- thumb up.gif

I agree with Dashes suggestion that you can delete these files - - 99.9% of the time but you may have unintentionally placed an important file in C:\Windows\temp and might want to take a more conservative approach. Specifically, create a new folder within C:\Windows\temp such as a folder named -temp- so that a file path will be created as follows: C:\Windows\temp-temp-. Next place all of your current folders and files located in C:Windows\temp inside this new folder. If over the next several weeks, in the normal course of using your computer, you determine that you don't need any of those folders and/or files, by all means delete everything in C:Windows\temp including the new folder you created. If on the other hand during that period you are unable to complete a function because a file is no longer available, you can remove the file from the -temp- location and place it back into the file path C:\Windows\temp and not lose any functionality. Hope this helps!

About 4 or 5 years ago we had a gal post on a previous forum that she had a 20 gig hard drive and she was out of space. Her Temp folder had almost 16 gigs of garbage in it, and she wanted some guidelines on what she could safely delete. It took six of us posting the same message to finally convince her to hit Ctrl+A to highlight the entire folder contents, hold the Shift key and hit Del. lol.gif
