just to play instructional sound clips and archives in real media formats... some in ram format.... Even an older version of software will do. I don't want bugware. Yuck........

Hi razorboy...try Real Alternative 1.37.

I personally like Windows Media Player. It takes everything i throw at it and plays them fine, as long as you have the extensions. Also, look at download.com to find different versions of it to suit your needs.
