I am currently using AVG free edition so far it seems ok, what are your thoughts on it? Should I stick with it or not? What’s the best anti virus product out? and not resource intensive, what should I use?

Hi Zenith,
After trying all free AVs, I definitely stay with AVG... it works fine and never let me be infected, although it can not heal all types of viruses. If well configured, it warn about it so you can take immediate actions. I suppose some paid AVs may be better...
Think this topic will be interesting at all

Have to disagree. AVG does not do that well in tests. I have noticed AVG users say it catches things (but if it does not, how do they know?).
The best free one is Avast (but it does have a slightly complicated registration process). Anti-Vir is also very good. See links below.

That is how I know
- note that sometimes I run some online AV, like TrendMicro's, just for sleeping well

See.
In the tests I have read, including Interceptors Pinned AV test, it performs poorly. I am glad it has worked for you so far. I would guess though that you also surf safely.

WEll, wht about PC-cillin??
Isn't it better than AVG? I, of course, know each and every AV has ups and downs, but I think I would rather choose PC-Cillin...
Just thinking of it.

As Efabes well remembered, no matter what bullet proof jacket you wear if you go to dangerous places, as you can pick a lost bullet on a leg or on your head.

Secure surfing avoid most of problems.
And some healthy attitudes with non-secure (porn) sites, e-mails, gaming, p2p, MSN and other ICQ either.
I am from the last century, when internet was more secure.

Best of this is that you can try them all for free.

I had a system in the shop Saturday and it had an updated version of AVG. It also had 14 viruses.
For a free av use AntiVir. For shareware use PCC.

Did the pc owner argue that AVG was great?

Did it sound like I was arguing?
"I had a system in the shop Saturday and it had an updated version of AVG. It also had 14 viruses."
I'm not sure how you get an argument out of that.

John he asked you if the PC owner argued with you that AVG was great. Silly wabbit!
For my two cents you can never have one perfect AV. If you're careful in all respects, you more likely to be safe than if you rely solely on your AV. Firewalls, safe surfing habits, and regular scanning (online as well) go a long way to making your life much easier.
For the record, I use and older version of Norton and have never cared for any other AV.

Weellll......okay then.
I don't think he argued with me about AVG.

I dunno....wasn't paying attention.
And I prefer Crunchberries.

Interceptor which AV do you use? I was reading about AVG only catching 62% of the virus out, I think I will leave free ones alone, what’s the best one you can buy and you recommend.

I get licenses from some of the av companies who have seen my reviews so I jump back and forth. I've been fine using AntiVir lately (free version is just as effective as the shareware version), but I've also got my ActiveX set to 'Prompt', which helps prevent a majority of spyware and virus activity. I also don't use Java.
Right now the preventative programs I use are:
ZoneAlarm
AntiVir
SpySweeper
My trusty old version of Jammer...before it became so complicated and was just a registry monitor.
KillAd
Spycop
Programs I run checks with (including those stated):
Adaware
HijackThis
Housecall scanner or trend's portable scanner.
Then I have an entire arsenal of files and programs I use if something seems strange. My security cd has had so many entries added to it that now it contains a little over 600 megs of security related software.
But I very rarely have problems, and I poke my nose into some really nasty places on the web.

I have used PC Cillin for several years, and I can honestly say that I can't remember one virus getting past it. It doesn't slow down my computer like NAV does, and so far I have had no conflicts with my programs.
Now it comes with a so-so anti-spyware proggie, and an excellent firewall.
Only once did I have to turn off the firewall, and that was when I was using Remote Assistance on my niecs's computer to get rid of some adware that was causing her trouble. Other than that I forget it is there!
