Running Outlook 2000 on Windows NT4.

About 3 days ago I think I must have created an appointment and deleted it. I don't remember exactly what I did, but it has produced some strange results.

Every few minutes or so, at random intervals, a copy of the deleted appointment appears in my "Deleted Items" folder. This has been happening for the last 3 days and only came to light when I got a system message telling me my mailbox was over it's size limit.

I have deleted some of them from my Deleted Items, asked my Exchange Administrator to check that nothing is looping, which it isn't, and he tells me it must be an Outlook client behaviour, as Exchange is fine.

On examining the deleted appointment, I see it's set to recur weekly on a Wednesday, with no end date specified. It also says in the Information panel "Invitations for this meeting have not been sent" and I am the only attendee listed. I don't think this has any significance though.

A sample of the times against the deleted items appearing is as follows -
14:27, 14:28, 14:28 (yes, two at once), 14:40,14:53 (3 times), 15:19, 15:24, 15:25, 16:05 and so on.

Has anyone seen this behaviour before and can anyone offer any advice please?

Thanks In Advance,
Alison

How large is your local .pst file?
Outlook will do all sorts of weird things when you get close to it's 2gig file size limit.

Good idea. I had forgotten about that. However, that wasn’t the solution.

I think my ipaq caused it. I created the appointment and at some point disconnected my ipaq, which automagically synchronises with Outlook on a regular basis. I must have deleted the appointment, then put my ipaq back in it’s cradle.

I think from then on it synchronised, recreated the appointment and Outlook somehow knew that appointment had been deleted and put it into the deleted items folder each time it synchronised.

I only noticed there was an unsynchronised appointment by accident when I was shutting down and caught the sync window, which is usually hidden, behind other windows.

Deleting the appointment from my ipaq has stopped it happening today.

Many thanks for the suggestion, though.

That would be irritating. Very happy you got it squared!
