Hi, people...

I had this problem before when I was using Norton System Works and an Audigy 2ZS sound card and I could never get rid of it. I thought it was Norton so when I finally reformated and loaded XP Pro again I didn't use Norton at all. I used AVG anti-virus with the same sound card. I was loading progies and I started getting the same problem again. Here is what I get, mostly but not always!

Service database is locked (hit OK)

Can't start kernal mode driver service (hit OK)

Can not load eio.dll (hit OK)

eio.dll is for my video card (ASUS ATI Radeon A9800 XT), it is the program that tells the voltages, etc., on the video card.

It is an ASUS mb, 1 gig ram, about 6 mos. old which I built. I do not think it's anything physically wrong with the computer.

There is one thing that I've noticed as well, don't know if it's related. When I delete a lot of files at once, the box that says "Are you sure you want to delete?" stays on the screen instead of going away.

This is driving me crazy so if you've had this problem, please tell me how to fix it. Thanx...

we're assuming that NO nasties are involved here....right??

"then Q"......... do you run zonealarm?

if not, boot to console command and run;

chkdsk

then run

chkdsk/defrag

and get back.

Chkdsk/defrag seems to be an invalid command. Do you mean chkdsk/f then defrag? How about another defragger i.e. Perfect Disc or Diskkeeper? I am not using any software firewall on the computer but I have a hardware router which acts as a firewall. Thanx.

Hello again...

Well, seemingly I fixed this problem by by loading an updated BIOS file 1021. Of course, even this process took several days because the first time I got a checksum error and it wouldn't boot at all. Long story short, I finally got it to boot to the floppy and loaded the BIOS correctly and (SO FAR), no trouble. Knock on wood!
