I actually don't want to post another topic while my previous one is incomplete, but I don't have a choice since it's urgent. Please don't ignore my previous incomplete topic.

I want to obtain my XP Activation key and keep it with me, as I lost it when my digital diary was formatted accidently. I want to obtain it by calling Customer Service Representative in my region, but I can't find its free toll telephone #.
Please tell me how to get the telephone # of Customer Service Representative in my region.

Take a look in your System32 folder. The first file should be one with a name $winnt$.inf. Open this in notepad and you'll see your key code listed near the top:

[userdata]

I'm viewing this in Win2000, but it should be in XP, too.

Alternatively, you can download one of the many free programs that will show this info, such as Win KeyFinder.

If you choose to Activate Windows over the phone using the built in option it actually gives you the telephone number to call

Or, Microsoft have a list of them here; http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/resourc...ol/numbers.mspx

If you want to keep the activation key so you can re-use it in case of needing to re-install Windows then there is an easier way which will avoid the need to call Microsoft at all. (after the first time anyway)

Once activated, copy the following file onto a floppy disk or other disk partition.

C:\windows\system32\wpa.dbl

Then reinstall WinXP, then bootup in Safe Mode (Hit F8 at Bootup)

Replace the new file with the one you saved, reboot, and no re-activation necessary. biggrin.gif

Tnx for yr help. hug.gif
So u mean to say there's no need to change the activation key everytime I reinstall my OS? That is 1 activation key is enough to reinstall my OS several times??
efabes
Only on the SAME pc. What happened that you would need to install it "several" times?

Nah, I was just giving a clear expample.
As u know, efabes, I still didn't get any express solution for my taskbar, so I'm gonna format my notebook, if I don't get any further solution within the next week.
Tnx, for yr concern as always.

One of your posts in that thread made it seem that the problem was fixed. I asked you in that thread for clarification so we could keep looking. You had not responded yet. You might want to follow up in that thread (HERE) before you reformat.
