My grandads computer wont load and he gets the message:

'Could not start windows, please re-install the file ntoskrnl.exe'

Now, I'm about to do a format of the computer, but he doesn't want too lose certain data, can anything be done to get round this error.

Apparently, this is common to NT/XP.

you could extract a copy from your install cd but that generally leads one to another file missing and then another......and etc.

the ms article efabes has pointed to works for some...and a good read.
