How would you save a hundred or so OE emails to a CD-RW for backup?
Thank you.

In my system (win98SE), files are at:
C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Identities\{A2969D60-F553-11D8-B71A-E8BAAC008F73}\Microsoft\Outlook Express
just copy all .dbx files to your CD.
Note that you must have OE to read them after restoring.

Just copy the entire Outlook Express folder - you can copy & paste it into another installation and have all your Email available in a few seconds.
Don't forget to copy the following items to put into another installation:
1. Address book
2. Email Account settings including POP & SMTP server address, user ID, Password, Phone # if applicable, and any special settings that your ISP may need.

Thanks! I've got the folder moved over, yes, that's easy. (I'm working on an ME machine, mine's 98SE). I can't seem to open the email which is now on the E drive, and it would be handy to do so, for sorting and culling. Of course, it opens with OE. If I open OE, I can't get at the E drive to choose them; and if I Explore E drive, choose some mail, and choose OE to open it, OE won't, it just reads the C drive again.
Does anyone know how to open the mail on E drive, with OE??
Thanks again.

You need to paste that folder into the same logical address location. You need to start OE, set it up (off-line), then locate the OE folder in this new installation. Rename it to something like Outlook Express1 and paste the "cut" folder into the same "Microsoft" folder (not onto the E drive). OE looks into this default location for the Outlook Express folder, and if you follow the above directions, it will find this folder containing all your old Email and allow you access to it. You can now go on-line, start OE and collect the Email from the server - if you go online too early, you'll end up loosing whatever you retrieved from the server. If you find yourself in this predicament, post for additional instructions before renaming the Outlook Express folder.

I guess I strayed from the real topic, but to finish where I strayed, if you want to change the Email Storage Location, you can do the following (this is from the OE Help File - it's amazing what you can find there

):
| QUOTE |
To change the location of your message store
On the Tools menu, click Options, click the Maintenance tab, and then click Store Folder. Click Change, and then select a new folder for your message store. |
The above won't work if you leave the folder on a CDR.
Using Windows Explorer, you can expand the Outlook Express folder that you've got on CDR, then you can find the Email you want from the title and double-click it - this should call OE to open the selected Email.
With the various approaches I've suggested, you can put the "saved folder" on the hard drive somewhere and with a bit of fancy manipulation using Windows Explorer or OE settings, you should be able to view whatever you want.
