hi...i don't really know very much about networking or any of the particulars of how the internet works, but i've got two computers connected to a router that connects to the internet by a pppoe connection. my problem is that i just installed a firewall and the icon in the system tray shows every couple of seconds that something is being sent out, even if i don't have any programs open using the internet connection (as far as i know, anyway). so...is that normal? i'm including a hijackthis log that i just made, too...if that'll help.

Hi xxl,
maybe you did not configured your firewall properly ? Your system may be just pinging your ISP... and maybe you'll have some malware sending informations about you... worm.gif

See you have Spybot S&D Teatimer installed, but it don't cath all bad stuff, so, I strongly recommend that you run spywareblaster and ad_aware SE, just in case.

i would hazard the opinion that it is simply the router and the inet provider communicating, basically to confirm each others identity and that they are in fact still there, as he said, basicly just pinging.

however a quick check of your firewall settings and checking whcih ports are allowed for outbound communication would be good, just to ensure nothing has been missed. if your unsure, just post back here smile.gif
