First, TURN OFF THE CAPS. It is like shouting (and kind of distracting to read).

Second, you say you have Windows 2000, so I will move your post to that forum.

Re the problem. We need a few answers:
1. What are you doing when you get the errors?
2. When did this start?
3. Have you installed anything (hardware or software) recently?

efabes
Oh yeah, insurance will not pay.
grandma
Sorry about caps, I know better.

I have a Dell L800r with Windows Me that came from Dell with Microsoft Office 2000 for small business that was installed when computer arrived.

Computer came with 65 ram. in December obtained 256mb from Dell and
installed same. Haven't added anything new since. I tried system restore , which meant i had to remove norton nis 2005 (which i orignally installed in ist of Nov.) completely and reinstall.

My problems started about the same time i downloaded Kb891711 window update. Also it is when i join Cox hi speed. because I had a lot of trouble with loosing digital signal, i did not stop my earthlink dial up. COX digatal service just came out for 4th time Sunday. when son set up the cox progran , i told him i use Outlook express not OUtlook. i don't know what happened but now i have outlook on desktop and other areas.

Around sametime, if i rt click to send some to disk, my docs., etc
send info somewhere, such as: send to A: FLOPPY
my documents
zip etc.
D: CD-ROM
MAIL RECEPIENT

now all of a sudden that is gone and in its place is:
send: FLOPPY A
AIM BUDDY ( which i don't have set up on my computer)
AIM SHARE (''''DON'T USE)
MAIL REC
MY DOC
WEB PUB WIZARD

errors usually occur if i have outlok express and explorer open at the same time and i go to new site or open new mail.

Also get iexplore error in GDI.exe
Error OE: 0187: BFF8E64B
Winword invalid page fault module GDI.exe @ 0001.0000 79B

Well last nite,received new message.
"Explorer will close to error" squares with ignore --close
if I click ignore nothing happened. if I clicked close , screen would blink and same message "Explo..........." would come up. tried repeatedly. Received same message. had to maually shut down
efabes
Are you running an Antivirus AND firewall? You need both if you are on highspeed.

Avast and Antivir are two really good free ones. Zone alarm has a free personal firewall that is also good. See links below.

Before we do anything, download HijackThis. Create a hijackthis folder and unzip (extract) HijackThis to the folder. Start the program. Choose the button on the upper left to run the scan / save the log. Copy and paste the ENTIRE log into a response in this thread.

Malware can cause the problems you are describing. Hijackthis will tell us what is running. If you have malware, we can remove it and hopefully repair windows.

grandma

I have Norton intersecurity which includes Norton Antivirus. do have antivirus and firewall set up
friend just told me about Zone alarm and advised me to in stall it,but I din't want to add or subtract until problem found

Just saw incredimail listed. Son downloaded it and I thought it had been completely removed. Quess not. also i have empire poker but not poker party.
efabes
You do have "my web search." I think the poker ones are malware as well.

Download, install, update and run both Adaware and Spybot. See links below. When you have run both, post a new log.

You may also want to try uninstalling KB891711.EXE for a minute. If the system works okay without, try installing again. I did not see a known issue, but....

Your system also has a lot of HP, what I will call garbage, running. There are also many Norton processes. All this together may casue issues.

grandma
Did spybot s&d copy log and then was doing ad-aware. went back to shut down spybot and quess what 2 new error messages. they go as follows:

error: system resour cen ercho(with 2 dots over o)pft.

spybot had caused anerror in USER.EXE

Sorry I was not clear. You do not need to post the results of Spybot or Adaware. Just fix the items marked as problems. Also,
are you saying you ran them at the same time? You need to run them one at a time.

When you are finished, run HijackThis again and post THAT log here.

Also, how much memroy does your system have?

Did you run the update for both programs before you ran them?

Check your control panel - add/remove programs. Do you have any listed for the poker (or search (or shopping, coupons, discounts, etc)? You may be able to just uninstall them.

Have you noticed any performance increase after the clean up you have done so far?

So far, no error messages. We'll see. Yes I did run the updates.
I just removed AFP Web Viewer setup on demand from control - programs.

Have a program listed "Holt Biology Interactive tutor" which was used by Granddaughter 1 year ago. can not remove it. tried everything , including searchin for it . No mattere how i search, says nothing found.

Error messages fixed!!

Yeah.

You might want to post one more hijackthis log after you restart to make sure everything is gone.

Re the Biology program. I will tell you how to get rid of it if you want, but it involves editing the registry. That could cause problems if you make a mistake. It wont hurt anything if you just leave it. Let me know.
