Help!
Im trying to install AT&T internet software on my home computer. I get the message: "you do not have access to make required system configuration modifications. Please return this installation from an administration account"
(the AT&T tech support staff did not resolve the problem)
If anyone can help, it would be appreciated.
Thanks,
efabes

Welcome to SAF!
WinME does not require admin rights to install anything. Any chance you are using Windows 2000 or Windows XP?

WinME should not have such an error. I would bet it is a problem with the ATT software or another program on your machine. Is what you are trying to install only for XP/2000?
Any security software running?
My opinion: Internet software is usually a problem. The only thing they usually do is give you a "badged" IE (Internet explorer provided by ATT) and some basic generic network settings to get started. You are better off just using Windows networking to make the connection, if possible.
Post back with an answer to the above and how you would like to proceed. It could be difficult to troubleshoot if the problem is caused by their software, which is what I suspect. Easier if you have lots of security programs running.

The AT&T software is for Windows 95 and higher. The only security program running is Spybot search and destroy. I will try connecting through windows networking. Thanks!!

ANother mod suggested it mayu be poledit.exe (policy editor). This program shipped with 95/98, but was not shipped with ME. Many did use poledit for ME, but it was never supported. Search the harddrive and see if the program is there.
Can you install other software ok? Can you go into Networking and click New Connection? If so and if you do not find poledit, I would think it is a problem with the software or an unknown conflict betweent he att software and something else you have running.
Have you tried to set it up without the ATT software?
