I tried to to a system restore but it didn't work. My computer keeps rebooting over and over. I did the restore because a couple months ago I started to install Windows XP but realized I had the full version and would lose all my data so I did not finish installing it. Everytime I booted up I had 2 options to choose from Windows ME and the not installed Windows XP. Hoped to get rid of the problem with system restore. Can anyone help?

Welcome to SAF!

At what point did you stop the install? To where (what directory) did you install XP? Did you select NTFS or FAT32?
PaulE
I don't remember but Fat 32 sounds familiar.

We need to know the answers to the following to provide any help. Any advice without the following answers could make things worse (and require a format/lose everything/reinstall):

1. Was the XP install started on the same partition?
2. In what directory?
3. At what point did you abort the install (within a few minutes, right before it loaded hardware devices, etc).
4. Start with a bootdisk. Can you change to the c:\ directory?

PaulE
XP was not installed on the same partition. I don't know what directory it was installed in. I aborted at the point where it said if I continue all my information would be lost. When I start with a boot disk I can change to the C directory.
