Full Version: What to Beef up PC
Suggest A Fix PC Support Forums > Operating Systems > Windows Me

I have a HP Pavilion XE744. I sent a email to HP and got the specs on my PC. RAM 64MB PC 100

Maximum: 512MB (2X256 MB DIMMs)
Speed: 100 MHz synchronous

Free DIMM socket: 1
(does this mean I have a slot to add another card of RAM?)

I took the cover off and didn't see anyplace to slip another card into. It appears to have two cards in the system.

Other info: Type Supported: SDRAM 100 MHz, Intel SDRAM unbuffered DIMM specification, revision 1.0 complaint

It also states that Free DIMM slots may vary due to availability of memory components at the time the PC is manufactured.

Question: Is their a way to beef my PC up? It runs ok but slow compared to my laptop.

Sounds like you currently have two 32mb DIMMS. These would need to be removed and discarded to add new memory.

According to what they are telling you, each slot can hold up to a 256mb DIMM (though I could not find this on their website).

Here are their directions:

You will notice some increase in performance with more memory. Keep in mind that the laptop may have a much faster processor? You may also need to do a disk clean up and defrag to speed up the system.

I did the disk clean up and defrag and that did help. But you are right the Lap top has a much faster processor. I guess if I need to do a quick look up I'll use the laptop but the ole desk top for busy work......Thanks for the info..
