anyone have any experience using R A ?

banghead[1].gif
christophe

just a bit on the latest news about this banghead[1].gif

it seems that R A will work on a more localised network as against using it over a longer distance [15oo miles]....that makes sense...

my brother[who is about 12 miles from me] and I set RA up last nite and it works...however, if I try to make any changes on his dsktop...the response is ''extremely slow'' on his/my screen so we gave it up, but at least I know it works..we can make a connection.....he is using the same bb service as I am...

data transfer rates are about the same...he is using a USB connection to modem from pc...me, ethernet...

my friend in france who i am trying to set up RA with.....this is proving much more difficult ...we cant make any sort of connection at all...we are using a webcam and that seems to be ok!
...just a prob with voice at his end...he cant hear me at all....we can transfer files, though, with not much of a prob....a bit slow, but its okay...

that's all for the for the moment, will let you know what follows...

Hey Christophe,

Looks like I am going to have to try RA. I have never tried it before. My daughter's computer at college (Arizona State) is giving her probs, so I Hope I can RA with her to see what's going on. It's about 1500 miles from me and we both are on cable. Think I have a chance? Did you use the help file with XP, or another help doc?

more news...i got the sound[ deni couldnt hear me before] sorted...

i have an SB audigy 2 ZS sound card...

there is a setting in the XP volume control...which is disabled[i think, by default]...it is the 20db bass boost...this setting has to be enabled in order for the mic to work...

the mic/hdset came with webcam...a creative NX ultra...

i don't remember having this problem with cheaper mics...

but, so far so good...this is much better than trying to write...what a pain...always out of sync

next thing is the dreaded R. A....

bet you're all looking forward to that....

well, so am i...!

ranchhand...hi

to tell de truth, i don't know if you'll get it going or not, but we'll both see if that happens, at some stage or another...one problem, i think is the distance...the packets of data have a very long way to go and back, so i don't really know and i couldnt find any reading material that gave any inkling about distances, or any real help about any issues with RA either

the fr bb provider maybe uses some config somewhere that doesnt match up with something here in Ireland...I just wonder how many people would try and help someone in a foreign country....it may not be a prob. with you in the States...if you see what i am getting at....

don't forget to shut down any firewalls, if u decide to go ahead with RA...this is something i know that causes issues..

i did some research as you would imagine, [used the help files in Help & Support plus a few links which you will see as you go along] and it seems quite straight forward as you will have seen your self...but i have had no luck with setting RA up with deni, my friend in Fr...it might well be the bb service which is dissallowing us to implement it or it may be something else...don't know....there is another associated facility...ie. ''Offer Remote Assist,'' ....if you type in the 'search bar'{help & support} ''Offer Remote Assist.'' it will take you there and u have 2 choices...1. using the IP address[I had no luck with this] of the other person...or using their ''comp. name'' [didn't try this one yet, but will at some stage...

if u and your daughter have a webcam and want to use it....it would work reasonablly well, I feel

..just watch your temper, when she doesnt/cant follow your experience/instruction...!!! ha what a gas!...it was/is with deni anyway...

if you happen across anything ''odd'', r....would be glad to hear about it from you..

all i can say for the moment is....g'luck

r...something i forgot to mention...my brother & i set RA up and it worked fine...'cept it took an awful long time to do anything...i tried to move something on his desktop and it took about 20 secs to move it in real-time [same bb prov.]...so it's a nuisance...he lives 12 miles from here...that's certainly closer than fr....anyways, we shall see
christophe
more stuff...if u type into google search remote assistance....the 1st choice will tell just how to set it up...it's from the ms website...sorry, I can't copy and paste it for some reason

Hi ranchhand & christophe, and Merry Christmas biggrin.gif

I only read part of your posts, but I have Windows Messenger, and it has remote assistance, and I have used it, or I should say a very good friend used it, and he lives in Seattle, and it worked very well. you can see him move around my computer, it was weird watching the mouse move all around the screen keybrd.gif

The only problem I had was, I had to shut down ZoneAlarm so he could get onto my computer, sometimes he had to shut his down also, and sometimes he didn't. It really works well, and there was a place to chat on, so he could ask me questions, like you would on Instant Messenger.

Just thought I would let you know.
