hello
just got BB...[great stuff, really!] and i have a friend who did likewise...we are trying to setup Remote Assistance as he is having difficulties with some things that i know how to fix
We have tried using the RA facility in Msn messenger and OE [in Start menu]...no luck...sometimes it just won't access the setup in OE...more often..the RA request is sent but I don't receive it
...the firewall is disabled on both pc's...his provider [Wanadoo.fr] may be somehow interfering with the RA, don't know
...I saw somewhere in something, that one can configure PORT 3998[?] if one has troubles setting up RA...pardon me as I am not sure of exact port number...how & where does one set this up...
also tried to use RA [ request from him] within MSN messenger, I receive the request..it says ''trying to connect to Denis '' but it goes to a time out at my end ...
i found that there is also an ''Offer RA'' in XP somewhere as well...I have set that up using ...gp.edit.msc in the RUN menu...
we are going to try the OFFER RA tonite...if lucky, it'll be nice to get this set up...my friend is a keen greenfoot, but overwhelmed with it all...we are using a webcam but that has an issue, too...i can see/ hear him, but he cant hear me
i can send on files to him...would this mean that the bb providers we are using, don't have restrictions/settings that would prevent RA from being used
'any' ideas about this would be helpful...
thanks

I know nothing about the 'Remote Assistance' that you mention. If you're wanting to access his system, just like you were sitting at his keyboard, then I would suggest using a program like
LapLink or
PCAnywhere. This would provide a much more secure and virtually hack-proof connection, and both of these products have been around for ages and have excellent reputations.

Did you look at the price of these !!!....not only that, but pcanywhere, as well as most of the others are
useless for RA...they are only good[realistically] for file/folder transfer...

Hi
I too have not used 'Remote Assistance' however I have used RealVNC which is available for free from
http://www.realvnc.com/ You will need to install this on both machines. There is a good description on how it works and how to use it at that site.
Good luck. BF

i have a question for moon...it's in the right place now,
...moon, how does that ''little man'' in your response know what my ISP is?.......or does only the ''little man'' know...
the IP address that is listed in various places on my system, is quite different to the number that is on the ''little man's'' banner...i am presuming the number listed on banner is correct...it makes sense that way, as the numbers[elsewhere] are much shorter and almost the same as the numbers listed for my friend's IP addy in france....how can i find the correct address...this would be helpful using RA as well as REAL VNC...?
thanks...
