Full Version: networking problem with XP pro

I 've been trying to set up a network between my two computers. The problem I have struck is that computer 2 has no "my network places" . computer 1 can see computer 2 but cannot connect. computer 2 can't see anything. what should I do?

Make sure the built in firewall in XP is shut off and run the network wizard again on both machines.

You dont "need" my network places to see shares on the other computer - just makes it an easy way to browse for it.

As long as you know the IP address you can just map a drive to the shared folder on that computer - right click my computer, select map network drive and enter \\IP ADDRESS\SHARENAME in the folder box and as long as your permissions are setup properly you should be able to access that folder
