I can't seem to network my computers. I'm trying to network my Windows XP computer to my Windows ME computer with a D-Link hub.

I installed a second network card on my XP rig to go along with the onboard one that came with it. The XP rig is connected to a cable modem so I want to network the internet connection as well.

The cable running from my high speed (cable) modem goes into the onboard network connection and a cable runs from the network card I installed into the first port on the D-Link hub. In the second port I plugged in the cable that runs from the network card on my Windows ME machine. I ran XP's Network wizard on the XP and copied the software to floppy and ran it on the Windows ME machine but I can't seem to get it to work. I renewed the IP addresses to no avail. I don't quite know what to try next. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Have you tried to plug the both machines into the hub and connect the hub directly to the modem?

If you can try using a diffrent cable to connect the ME machine to the hub, cables can be damaged without any sign of damage on the outside.

Also if you can get this info it may help:

Manufacuter and model of NICs you are using
The model of the D-Link hub

I was under the impression that Hub's don't split internet signals. I thought only routers did that.

The D-Link is a DSH-5, on the XP machine the onboard network card is a Realtek RTL8139/810 and the second one I installed is a Encore ENL832-TX that XP recognizes as a Realtek RTL8139/810.

On the ME machine the network card is a Macronix MX98715. All network cards are using Windows software for drivers.

I'm using Cat. 5E patch cable for the network.

I just noticed that under Device Manager on the ME machine in the Network adapters section there are two entries. The Macronix MX98715 and a NDIS 1394 Net Adapter. I'm not sure what that NDIS is because the only card I installed was the Macronix.
