I have three computers networked that I finally have all 3 seeing each other and most things appear working except for one thing. The 3 machines are: a Win 98, Win 2000 and an XP. They are named:
CP (the Win (2000)
IBM (the Win 98) and
Emachine (the XP)
My problem is when I go to the IBM machine it is asking me for a password when I try to access the CP.
It tells me "You must supply a password for this connection:
Resource: \CP\IPC$"
I don't know how to get past this. I did not set up a password for this machine. I am able to see the CP by way of the Emachine. I am able to see the IBM by both the CP and the Emachine, but not the CP by way of the IBM.
I have a Linksys 5 port hub and connected to a satellite internet connection. There are no problems with the satellite connection.
I am using Sygate Personal Firewall, which was part of my problems when I first was trying to get all 3 to work. I overcame my problems with the firewall to get where I am now.

probably so simple your missing it and i'm no expert on server setups?
client side and server side. assuming nic cards are okay?
Ibm machine is client? so you have to set the server permissions from the server side.
Might try shutting off the other machines and set up the misbehaved pc to access the server after you get that named. Then try the group.
hope it helps.

Try setting all three PCs to log on with the same username and password.

You will have to have matching local accounts on each of the computers...
i.e. user1 & password, user2 & password etc.
You can also do a connect as...when you right click my computer and select map network drive there is an option right below the path/folder box to connect as a different user. You would have to enter the computer name\username and then password
