I have a Desktop with Win 98SE and a laptop with Win2000 Professional. I have a Netgear Wireless router and both computers can successfully access the internet. I am trying to get the 2 computers to share files and the printer.

This is what i have tried so far in my Win98se computer:
-Went to network neighborhood properties and checked both options in File and Print Sharing.
-Went to control panel, Users, and added a new user with the username of lucent. lucent is the username on my laptop. (not the computername, but the username that i use to logon when windows first starts)
-Right clicked on C drive, went to sharing. Clicked Shared As and added The World, Full Access. Then i tried to add lucent to share, but it wasn't available.
-Changed the Workgroup name to match the same Workgroup name on the laptop.
-In the Network Neighborhood properties, I have Microsoft Family Logon as my Primary Network Logon.

In my laptop, in the Local Area Connection properties, i have Client for Microsoft Networks, File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks, and TCP/IP all checked.

In my laptop, in the Computers Near Me, I see the desktop computer, but when i try to open it, i get 'computername is not accessible. The network path was not found'.

Now i'm stuck. Help!

Hi rutica

Welcome to SAF

Try mapping the shared drive to the other computer in each case. (Windows Explorer/tools/map drive)

Also check that you are not being blocked by any firewalls. Try turning them off to see if you can connect. If so you will need to re-enable the firewall for internet security, but configure it to allow the machines to talk to each other. BF
