Hi,

I am trying to share my printer which is connected to my Desktop PC with my laptop(enabled for Wireless) via my wireless rounter. I have enabled sharing on the printer but I am unsure how to set it up on the laptop (Port etc to user for network printer).

Printer and Router details
Epson C60
Wireless Broadband Rounter Linksys BEFW11S4

Thanks, Martin biggrin.gif

Hi Martin, here's a nice quick and easy way to install the network shared printer on the second pc;

Lets say the PC that has the printer connected, installed and shared is called PC1 and PC2 is the PC to be installed onto.
Do the following;

On PC2 Click Start->Run and type the following and click the OK button;

\\PC1

This will open a window with the shared folders and printers on PC1 and you should see the printer. Right click it and choose Install/Connect and the drivers will be automatically installed.

That's it ! Just substitute the proper computer name for the sharing PC and you're set smile.gif

Hi,

thanks for the help. I suspect something is not setup correctly. When I try \\Study (Computer name with printer connected) I get the message no network provided accepted the given network path.

Any other ideas?

Thanks again

Martin

I think you need to give us more information like; Operating Systems on both PCs.
LAN setup .. IP addresses, workgroup name, etc

Also, have you tried using the "ping" command from a DOS window ?
Sorry I can't write more just now since I am on my lunchbreak

Hi,

info as requested. Just managed to get time to have another look at this.

Laptop with Windows XP Professional - Workgroup name WINXP

Desktop with Windows XP Home - Workgroup name Study.

Epson C60 wired via USB to Desktop shared as sons

IP addresses are automatically assigned when logging onto the wireless broadband router. The router is is cabled into the desktop. Laptop connected via wireless card built into machine IBM Thinkpad T40

Hope this is enough info

Thanks, Martin

Hi, sorry to come back to this so late, I've been real busy.

First thing to do is to change the configuration so the PCs are both on the same Workgroup.
Then you need to make them on the same IP Address range. Typically this is 192.168.0.xxx
Then go into the TCP/IP properties of the network connections on both and enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP
For best results when sharing printers and files with XP you should set both PCs to log on with the same username and password

Also disable any firewalls you have on just until you get the sharing up and working.
