Hello, I have a Zonet zfs3016b switch purchased from Newegg. The post I have here is to decide what is going on with my switch, or entire network. My house is wired in Cat5e cable with wall jacks, and the lines terminating in a cabinet in my garage, at the time put strait into the hub. Then I got a hub. The lines worked great for the past few months, except I thought the fact that packets were flyin across the entire network was not helping me with bandwidth, I was planning to have a small server too. Well I got this switch, and it worked for about 3-4 weeks, pretty well in fact. The problem is I unplugged the switch, installed a router between the modem and the switch, no problem there, the router/switch combo worked for 45 minutes, and suddenly the switch failed, when I had to unplug the router to move it to a permanent place off my bench. Now what bothers me here is that the switch did not really die, it still powers on, the green lights go on for an "ok" status, but when a definately active cord is put in (in many ways this is tested, from taking it right off the working hub, directly connecting internet to the router in the basement, directly connecting internet to the switch, you name it from a textbook) NOTHING IS DETECTED ACTIVE. Then this gets stranger, at certain times just to annoy me more, it will be active on the internet for a few minutes stop or better yet a computer connects on and off repeatedly, all WITHOUT unplugging the plug (and sometimes unplugging it in vain attempts to reset it). I thought maybe the Auto-mdix might have been confused by something on my cables, thus I recrimped all of them with the 568B standard, NADA CHANCE. So if anyone happens to have a similar predicament (which I can say if you do, I know the frustrations), can add any info which may help me, or even if I'm lucky happen to be the engineer of this switch for Zonet, feel free to post on this PLEASE!!!!
- Thank you all from Nate

Most modern routers have a built-in switch. Depending on how many connections you want to use at once, a router may be all you need.

Are you using a patch panel?
