It maybe rudimentary but what program should I open it with? I'm trying to help a friend with her computer. She's on dialup. System is extremely slow and painful. Can I download Hijack This, CWShredder, Ad-aware, Spybot and Spyware Blaster onto disks from my computer and then use them on hers? Please help

You certainly can....and should. I'd start with Spybot, Adaware and CWS, then post a HijackThis log. HJT is an .exe file so it should start when you click on the icon.

Thank you Interceptor. When i clicked on the Hijack This icon the system asked me what program would I like to open it with. I didn't know and tried notepad to no avail.

Some versions of CoolWebSearch interfere with NotePad. Try CWShredder first and run a Fix.
