Greetings,
First time posting here and was referred by another member. I have a virus called "downloader.dyfica.q" and cannot clean it and nothing I have tried has helped. I was running AVG until reading the security brief on this site. Anyhow I can't find ANY info on this particular virus on any AV websites. I am running XP pro and Kerio firewall. I also have Norton antivirus running. I tried the free scan on this website and after about twenty minutes of scanning it locked up. Don't want to do anything else until I get some answers. You folks here seem to have them from what I have heard. I appreciate in advance any help.

Let's have a look at your startups to see where it's lurking. Download HijackThis.exe to a dedicated folder (as in, create one for it):

Click on 'Scan', then 'Save log' (the Scan button changes). Copy/paste the generated log file in your reply for analysis.

From what I've read this file is actually spyware from Avenue Media. That's why most of the antivirus companies do not list it. A couple of smaller av sites do, however. Are you running something like Internet Optimizer? You'll prolly see a couple of entries in the log that look like this:

Ironically enough I rebooted again and did the same for the cable modem and have yet to see the error message pop again. hopefully it's gone.. Sorry to butt in here, but that logfile isn't complete. It should start with "Logfile of HijackThis 1.97.7" and then give a few lines that reveal your system and patch level. From that we can tell whether you're up-to-date on your Microsoft patches as well.
Most of what HijackThis lists is either harmless or essential to the running of your system, so please don't go round fixing items before being told what to fix!
Don't worry - it's scary when you're new to all this but experts here will help and get you clear of this thing!
As for not having time, I know the feeling of being superbusy all the time. But taking a little time out here to sort this problem out might save a lot of heartache in the future should you end up getting a virus that flashes your BIOS or something else as terrible.
Can you do the following at this stage please:
1. Create a new folder to place HijackThis into. You're running it from a temporary location, which is not a good idea should we use it to fix anything. Call the folder C:\HJT or whaever you feel comfortable with and move HijackThis, unzipped, into it.
2. Rerun HijackThis from that new location and post back a full log.
Then we'l be better placed to help you!

This is actually known as Dyfuca, which you'll find descriptions in most av sites. It is spyware, however, Dyfuca.q I cannot find. Improper removal may result in your inability to connect to the Internet. Dyfuca consists of a downloader and a BHO (browser helper object). It's basically an intrusive adware/spyware that is downloaded and installed on a computer. We need to figure out where it is. TrendMicro lists these. They may give a clue as to where this thing resides.
I would disable System restore in XP first to make sure this thing isn't hiding in there. Start>Control Panel>System>System Restore>check the box to disable it. Run the cleaners, antispyware progrs, etc, then re-enable Restore.
You need to clean out all the Internet temp folders and other junk. Easy way to do it....FreeHistoryEraser.
