I am running windows vista. I cannot open any downloaded attachments or any downloaded files. I tried to accomplish this task using Internet Explorer and also Mozilla Firefox. The computer goes through all of the download steps, but stops short of allowing me to open or execute any downloaded file. What's more, when I click on the windows start menu and search for a downloaded file, it does not appear in the returned search results. I tried to go to download.com and download hijack this, so that I could post a log, but since this too is a download, I can’t open the file. I tried to run it and I also tried to save it. I’ve tried running and saving several files. I’ve also tried accessing files that were attached to an email, to no avail. I don’t know what else to try, especially since I can't download an executable highjack application and run it.

Well first thing that comes to mind was a free online scanner, but even those usually require a small download to make the online application run. You can try it like Panda's online scan.
As for your downloads, you're getting the screen that asks you to save or open but no further? Have you tried right click and save target as? -------------------- Dash-Queen of Typos
