I went to my Add/Remove Programs list to uninstall My Way Search Assistant. Once I hit the change/remove button, I got a pop up saying:
"RUNDLL
Error loading C:\PROGRA~1\MyWaySA\SrchAsDe\1.bin\desrcas.dll
The specified module could not be found"
(screenshot of error attached below)

I know this my way search assistant is often hard to get rid of, and everything I find online does not work.

I did find something saying to hit start, run, and input - msiexec.exe /x{78d944d7-a97b-4004-ab0a-b5ad06839940} and hit enter. I then got a pop up saying it was uninstalled, but the my way search assistant was still in the add/remove programs list.

any help you can offer?

Sometimes when you uninstall a program in win xp, you may encounter that removed program still exists in the Add / Remove Program lis. If this happen, you have to manually uninstall the invalid program entry in the Add/Remove. To remove the invalid program in Add/Remove program follow the steps below:-

- Start -> Run -> type regedit and enter
- Look for this key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Uninstall
- Look for the invalid entries branch, once you found it
- backup the branch to a file
- delete the branch

Under this HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Uninstall, there are a list of entries started with {GUIDs}, check the DisplayName in the entry if it’s the same as what you want to deleted. If yes, backup that entry and delete that {GUIDs} entry.

That invalid program should be removed by now.

Surfer's spot-on. Old register entries can cause headaches after the program proper has been removed. I always use a register utility to search for the "footprints" in the register when I remove any program.

In addition, MyWay is piece of software you really don't want to have around. If any problems persist, or something else has got onto your system that is unwanted, then pop over to the Malicious Code forum with a HijackThis log and we can give your system a health check.

Please post your HijackThis logs in the Malicious Code forum!!!; we do not offer one-on-one support via PM or email.
