I am running windows xp and am attempting to connect to the Internet via a direct LAN ethernet connection. I successfully connected another machine to the Internet using this same connection, so I know that the cable modem and LAN connection works. I attempted to "repair" the connection and received the following error message: "Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed: Renewing your IP address"
How do i resolve this problem? When I go to Network Connections, I see a message for Local Area Connection that says: acquiring IP address," but when the process completes, it puts a Yellow Exclamation Point icon on the Local Area connection icon and gives the following message: Limited or no connectivity. When I click on Internet Explorer, I get a message that says "The page cannot be displayed" |

Check to see if DHCP service is started and set to Automatic in Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. If through a router make sure DHCP Server is enabled in the router. In Network Properties, TCP/IP make sure Obtain IP address automatically and Obtain DNS Server address automatically have a tic.
wired or wirelsss connection? in command prompt type: ipconfig /release notice the space between ipconfig and / when /release finishes type: ipconfig /renew notice the space between ipconfig and / /renew should have an IP address other than 169.xxx.xxx If this is on a business or other large network it's another ball of wax. -------------------- I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today.
