Really confused with this problem since there seems to be no logic to whether the computers connect to the server or not.
But anyway, small office of 5-6 computers which were all connecting to the server drives fine about 3 days ago. In the last couple of days people have found that they cannot access the drives and get "An error has occurred while reconnecting Y: to \\server1\data Microsoft Windows Network: The local device name is already in use. This connection has not been restored". We have tried switching network cables from computers which DO work and also checking that everything is plugged in properly but no joy. Sometimes when we restart the computers they are absolutely fine only to lose connection the next day or a little while later. We are running Windows 2000 Server on the server and I did notice that the servers hard drive was full (not sure if that would be the cause of it?) but I have just done a clean up to make room and there has been no change in the connection of the computers. Does anyone know what the problem might be? Thanks |

I have just noticed that the workgroups of some of the computers in the office are different to the ones which aren't working. The ones which aren't working have a domain instead of a workgroup.. so I changed it back to the same workgroup as the others.
Once I'd done this they could connect to the server BUT it seems that all of their files have been rolled back because there are really old files on their desktops... anyone know why this is? |
