HI
I have done a fresh install with xp home. There is absolutely nothing else on the pc. When i try to connect i get "failed to query tcp/ip settings for the connection. First look in device manager and see if your network adapter is installed.

then uninstall the adapter from device manager, reboot and go through the hardware detection/driver install process.
