Nas Ftp Setup Guide Needed Options

O.k my units NAS unit is now up and running on my small home network.

Now i would like to be able to access the files on the NAS remotely from my work PC using FTP but i have no idea where to start.

What do i need to do with the ports in the router and the IP address asigning and everything else.

I am a total spastic here so if there is a simple guide somewhere or if some one could guide me through the steps in a simple format it would be greatly appreciative.
