Hi,

I have started to design a band website with a friend. We want to put a window on the page that as you click on each of the menu items it changes to that page (news etc). We want this to have a scroll bar on it and be transparent. Please can you advise the best way of doing this?

I have the following products available to me

Dreamweaver
Flash
Fireworks

Thanks, Martin

I'm a bit confused when you say that you want the scrollbar to be "transparent". If by that you mean (as I think you do) that you don't want a scrollbar to "appear" when switching page content, and just have the "window" that contains the content auto-size to the height of the page content without showing any scrollbars, then the Dynamic Content script would be just what you are looking for.

In that case the "window" you are referring to would actually be an iframe. When you visit the above site I linked to for the Dynamic Content script, try out the clicking here link in the example shown...

Now, try clicking here to load a different page into the iframe, and notice how the iframe is automatically resized again to fit the new page's height.

Now, the example actually has the link within the iframe itself, but that's no problem in your case. If you want the links that switch content to instead be located on your "main page", then it's an easy matter to have those links just "target" the iframe (window) that contains the Dynamic content instead.

I hope this is what you are looking for.

Take care,
Nunzio

Just be aware this is IE specific.

Cheers

Well John, although I've never used the script myself and only referenced it for mkyle1 as a possible solution, this is quoted directly from the description...
QUOTE
This script works in both IE5+ and NS6+, and for other browsers, supports the option to either completely hide the iframe in question or display it using its default height.

But after reading your above post where you said it was IE specific, I've just gone and tested it with various browsers and the iframe displays in IE, Netscape, and Mozilla Firefox. In the case of Firefox (my and so many other people's browser of choice), it works flawlessly. The only browser that appears to have a problem is Opera.

btw... how have you been? I've always been just a tad bit disappointed that you and Colin (Invader X) never kept MyRival.com current. What happened there? Did you guys just give up on it after I left and Phzzz stopped being an internet presence? Most of MyRival is outdated now. What has happened to the SOW? No more sight of the week? I guess it all went to crap and Matt probaby couldn't be bothered to keep the SOW and random SSI calls intact, and I also see that the "new" MyRival message board has also been wasted.

Well, I guess all things must end at some point. Send my regards to everyone.

Take care,
Nunzio (aka Tom)

eeks i tried to correct you, i need to watch my manners!
and i was wrong hehe, my most sincere apologies.

Yeah, MyRival kinda came to a halt about the time you say. Colin and I just got pretty busy and it becmae easy to leave it behind, which was a shame. the SOW was not really a popular thing anymore as the community spirit in RR kinda plummeted, again a pity.

personally im working now, Merchant Navy, so the chance to get on the net is a fine thing!!

Hope your keeping well,
take care.
John.

Sorry for the delayed response, but I'd been away for awhile, and then had a death in the family, where I was out-of-state for several more days.

LOL. Correct me all you want, John. I'm not infallible. I make mistakes too.

Merchant Navy? Well that tells me a bit about you that I never knew before. You must be British. I like the Brits. I've developed "online" friendships over the last 2 years or so at the Winamp forums with several Brits (other moderators, a few Winamp developers, and more than a few forums members). Yep. Phzzz "died" a few years ago, and so did his web design business, as did his participation in HTML help forums (as you well know, and as many other people at Suggest-A-Fix know, who were founding members here along with me). Then Nunzio "surfaced" but remained inactive for close to a year. One day, I registered as Nunzio390 at the Winamp forums, asking in a very newbie-ish way for help with a problem I was having with the Winamp application. Afterwards I became more interested in the Winamp application, became a "power user" of Winamp, and used that knowledge to help others with their problems in the Winamp Tech Support and Discussion forums. Before I knew what was happening I was invited via a PM from a moderator (Mr Jones - who btw is also British) to join the moderating team there. I hesitated at first, then declined, and then with a little prodding, eventually accepted the "position". As soon as I did I had access to their "backstage" area and saw that there was an entire thread there where I was pleased to see that the existing Winamp moderators unanimously agreed to my "modship". Yep... a de-MOD-cracy exists there, same as we once had at Suggest-A-Fix (when I was admin here), whereby "votes" are taken among all admins and mods to consider adding in a new mod (and for most other decisions there, which are always discussed "backstage").

Funnily enough, even though my interest in web design and HTML help "died" at the same time Phzzz did, I now have a message board at my site that includes a "WebSite Woes" forum. So, I guess interests never really die, do they?

Too bad about MyRival. We all put a lot of effort into that project. It's a shame to see it die as it did.

Now... I wonder if mkyle1 ever utilized that script I referenced in my initial post here in this thread. He never posted back to say, one way or another.

Take care, John...
