hello.gif HI Guys/Gals: I plan on purchasing Win 7, I am a novice still, and scared to death to upgrade from XP to Win 7, besides all my computers are 4 to 5 years old. I want a 32 bit, but unable to find one with Win 7. Am I being too picky or what? Any ideas will really be appreciated.

Thanks,
poodlejo1 beatsme.gif

Ya lost me...Not real sure what you're asking.

All versions of Win 7 come in 32 bit.....

And what does your title->Ms Office Suite Pro With Publisher, Will one be available for soon? have to do with anything...Is that a different question?

Have you done the following:

Windows 7 Compatibility Center

Know what works. Get drivers, updates, and downloads.

compute.gif Thanks for your reply: Microsoft Office Suite with Publisher is a program for setting up Newsletters, Flyers, etc. Office Suite Professional also consist of a Word Processor, spreadsheets, (Excel) Access, Power-point, and other goodies. I type up newsletters, directories etc. So far it meets my needs.
As far as all Windows 7 being 32 bit, I have not found that to be so. Everyone I looked at was 64 bit- huge drives (650+ gigs) much too big for my purposes. However, I have not checked out all resources. I appreciate your input.

Again, Thanks

win7 is available in 32 bit or 64 bit. however since up to date processors are able to translate 64 bit software instructions much more efficiently and recognize and use many times more memory many computer manufacturers install 64 bit. in the not too distant future most applications will be 64 bit. invest in the future, use 64 bit.

I have a feeling he's talking about looking at prebuilt computers and Not just th operating system....If so, he needs to look harder...

i figure that as well. i'm thinking there's no need to invest in anything that's going to be outdated in a couple years.

I'm surprised he didn't get what you meant and rather than giving you a history lesson on software you're well acquainted with, actually answer your question as to what it had to do with Win7. smile.gif

For my two cents, I don't know why you'd pay money to buy 7 for an old machine. If the machine was a year old sure, but most people that have a 4-5 year old machine are vastly out of date on hardware too, and can usually pass the old machine down to a kid or relative. I'd save up for a new machine that comes with 7 installed. But again, that's my two cents.

compute.gif Thanks a million, I believe you are right. I am buying Win 7 and be up to date. I plan on using my XP notebook for a while longer and I do have Publisher on it, however, I had to do a Recovery fix on the Toshiba, also on my HP desktop - so I am good for a little while even after I get my Win 7. For A 75 year old female, I have a lot to learn, but I know I can count on all of you.

Poodlejo that's great that you want to be "up to date," but I think it's good to remember the old adage about if it ain't broke....don't fix it.

Or a penny saved is a penny earned. I ran and loved XP for like 8 years without a single hiccup or need to reinstall, and even though I'm very curious about how 7 is different I am far from the type to buy something just because it's new and everyone has it or wants it. I think you need to consider that if your XP machine is running well for you then consider sticking with it. If you aren't in the market for a new PC, then save your cash up for when you are or maybe something nice for yourself. But again, my two cents......Plus I'm frugal. smile.gif
