Windows Xp Continuously Restarting

Everytime I start my computer it displays the Windows XP loading screen, then up flashes a blue error message for a fraction of a second. This continues, presumably, eternally.

I managed to boot up Safe Mode and unchecked the 'Automatically Restart' option.

This is the message displayed at the error screen:

I'm running an ASUS A6Tc with XP (obviously). AMD Turion TL50, 1GB RAM, Nvidia GeForceGo 7300

Hope someone can be a hero and help out with this jam.

Hi. I'm new and I know it is rude to just jump in but need a little help, please.

I am trying to upgrade my old computer (windows 98) and need to know how to change the boot sequence to boot from the cd-rom drive.

Any suggestions?

New Firefox Redirector Virus & Fix...

For Firefox users; a new redirector attack has appeared and is difficult to find; it hijacks the browser and sends you to ad sites. Fix:

1) shut down Firefox.
2) go to the 'program files/mozilla/firefox/extentions' directory
3) delete the directory which has the overlay.xul file (or was created when you noticed the redirection)
4) restart the browser, end of problem.

OR

Firefox has a new patch for download that prevents this.

Windows Keeps Asking To Verify 2 Words

Okay. First post here, and want to say I've done some reading, and it seems this is a great community and just where I need to be to find the appropriate help with my problem.

First the symptoms. I'm unable to log into aministrator or the main account anymore of the computer, and have since made a new one I've used regularly for months now. I read conflicting opinions on digeste.dll after having my first warning that it was a bad image, and made the mistake of simply trying to delete it.

As of now, most msi's and installers that use the temp directory no longer function saying they're unable to access files from there. Also saved flash games, and many executables sound off with the same warning. Avast finds nothing, and Comodo doesnt see any incoming or outgoing to be blocked.

Now, to ask for help. I've installed HijackThis, renamed it, and run it just for a look first. CrapCleaner wouldn't install due to the Temp directory having a problem, so I restarted into safe mode, was able to log in as "Administrator" and was able to install it. Disabled the Do not delete temp files <24 hrs old, and ran it on both the Admin and later the account I regularly use (Both have admin privelages). Also installed MBAM according to the directions in the pinned msg, and came up with an error while trying to update.

The digeste.dll warning no longer displays when staring a saved java game.. But all of the O16's and O24's seem to be malicious/problematic. Any help with this is more than appreciated, and will be a great help if I can save myself from a format and fresh install. Thanks!

Ethernet Port Failure And Other Problems

Hi I am not sure if this is in the righ place but I have had some problems with my PC and I am wondering if anyone has any suggested solutions as I have tried a few things but with no luck:

Basically my problem started last week when I was online when all of a sudden my internet stopped working, following some testing I discovered that my ethernet port had stopped working (even though under system monitor it says it is) the reason I determined this was as I am using a Powerline Ethernet adapter to connect to the internet and it doesnt work when I plug it into the port but when I plug it in via a Ethernet/USB adapter it does.

Anyway since then my computer has frozen quite a bit with the blue error screen appearing, below are 2 of the messages I have received from it:

Also I am not sure if it has any relevance but almost everytime I go to shutdown I get requests to install updates before turning off which I always say yes too, it may not be relevant but just seems odd that I have had so many requests lately.

Since this has happened I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the network card and also starting in safe mode with networking, on both occasions the port does not work. Strangely the crashing only seems to occur when I am on the internet.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Frame Rate Drops In Games

I am experiencing the frame rate drops.

Unfortunately I am at a loss to what could be the cause. The game should run flawlessly and never drop below 60fps, maxed out at any resolution up to 1920x1080

My System Idle Process Is Going Mad

my system idle is going mad it keeps spiking my cpu and making the pc realy slow. i think this happens everytime i install steam so i can play half life left 4 dead ect.

if anyone knows of any other suggstions to why my pc is playing up id be greatful.

Laptop Battery

i got prb. when i try to charge my battery the light on the comp flashes in between the ac and the battery but the battery light is off and some noise comes on only when i try to charge the battery and the comp is on. however, when i shut the pc off and charges the battery it charges fine. in addition the pc works fine with the battery alone or the charger alone. but when they are both on the icon that indicates charging keeps exchanging between AC and battery. i got new battery and still does the same so where would the prb be in the charger or the comp or where? thanks

Fullscreen Aps Drop To Desktop

Hey guys, been trying to find out some sort of fix for this new random problem, spoke to some people and they have no idea plus google search isnt very helpful.

Mainly when im using a fullscreen application or watching a movie, it will literally alt tab to desktop for no reason. When I am in game, my game will go to desktop but not crash. My movies will just go to desktop and still be playing.

It does happen sometimes when im writing on an internet page, will just go to desktop so I am unable to write...

I have avg paid verison and ran checks etc but found nothing. I am using sp3, got e6600dualcore processer, ati 4850hd g-card, 2gb ram etc etc - never had problem like it -

any help would be awesome

Notepad Opens With Ctrl-alt-n

I Cant Copy A File; Says Too Large Yet I Have The Space

Okay so I used a Torrent site to download a 4.32 Video game lol first time ever so perhaps its a lesson "you shouldnt download games" aka PIRATING.

Well anyways, if you dont want to answer the question because of that, then its fine. I do have this game installed though.

So this file is 4.32gigs in an ISO format. I'm trying to copy or move it to my portable hard drive but it isnt letting me.

Yes it works; but I"m not sure why to my portable. At any rate, my desktop doesnt have any way of burning CDs though my laptop does. Right now I'm coping the file to public documents and perhaps thru the network I can burn it to the CD

I am curious if anyone has any thoughts as to why it cant copy to my portable hard drive and any workarounds. Thanks

Basic Weekly Maintenance/cleanup

Weekly maintenance:

Check for up-dates, Then Check connect, if there's Then Check to install or click ok if nothing to install, Then Check finish, Then Check start, Then Check next, Then wait and fix what ever it finds, Then Check X to close window.

2) Spybot @ http://www.spybot.info/en/download/index.html

Download and install Spybot S&D, open the program, in the main program window, click on "Mode" in the upper tool bar. Then click on "Advance Mode". OK the resulting dialog box. New selections will appear at the bottom of the menu in the left column.
Click on "Settings". Click "Settings" again on the new menu that just appeared in the left column.
In the right pane, scroll down to the "Main Settings" group.
Uncheck the three lines that start with "Create Backups of------".

Scroll down to "Scan Priority" and check the box next to "Highest".

Scroll down again to "Web Update" and check boxes next to "Download Update-----" and "Display PGP Signatures Updates".

Don't mess with this:
(Optional: Select "Display available beta versions", if you don't mind getting an occasional bug that may require re-installing the program.)

1. Before first use, check under Options, Advanced, and UNCHECK "Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours".
2. A pop up box will appear advising this process will permanently delete files from your system.
3. Then select the items you wish to clean up.
In the Windows Tab:
Clean all entries in the "Internet Explorer". Deleting cookies will require re-entry of user names and passwords on next visit to sites that require users log in.
Clean all the entries in the "Windows Explorer" section.
Clean all entries in the "System" section.
Clean all entries in the "Advanced" section.
Clean any others that you choose.
In the Applications Tab:
Clean all (optionally, except cookies) in the Firefox/Mozilla section if you use it.
Clean all in the Opera section if you use it.
Clean Sun Java in the Internet Section.
Clean any others that you choose.

Then click the "Run Cleaner" button and it will scan and clean your system. Click exit.

- Double-click on Download_mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
- When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
- When installation has finished, make sure you leave both these checked:
- Update Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
- Launch Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
- Then click Finish.

- MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue.
- On the Scanner tab:
- Make sure the "Perform Full Scan" option is selected.
- Then click on the Scan button.
- The next screen will ask you to select the drives to scan. Leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.

- The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.

When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
- Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
- Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
- Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
- When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to restart your computer. (see Note below)

The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.

Note: If mbam refuses to work, your system may be badly infected. Rename mbam.exe to 123.com and try to run it again.

By now you should know to update before scanning.

5) Download and install Spywareblaster. http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

Then defrag and let it run till complete, Re-boot computer and you should be good to go.

Cannot Delete File With "wcu" Extension

I have had 5 mystery files appear with 26 to 30 alpha/numeric characters in their name and all showing "empty". Attempts to delete, rename or move are refused. Clicking the file reveals the wcu extension.

Having been previously scanned as harmless my AVG decided that 4 were Rootkits and should be removed, which it did. The fifth remains untouchable and unmovable.

A scan reveals that despite being "empty" many files are scanned, beginning ...wcu/dotnetframework/dotnet..... etc etc.

Any advice please. How do I or should I get rid of it? Is it a danger or just a nuisance? I cannot find "wcu" extension in any index.
